The Natural Park of Sasso Simone and Simoncello is located in Pian dei Prati at the eastern edge of the Sassi oak forest, which covers 4,847 hectares between the Province of Pesaro-Urbino and Rimini, including the towns of Carpegna, Frontino, Montecopiolo, Piandimeleto, Pietrarubbia and Pennabilli, bordering the homonym tuscan natural reserve that lies in Sestino district of Arezzo. Inside the park, in addition to Sassi Simone and Simoncello, also appear Mount Canale, Mount Palazzolo and Mount Carpegna, the peak of the park at 1415 m above sea level and the watershed between the Foglia Valley and Marecchia Valley, where in winter lies a major ski resort. The Natural Park of Sasso Simone and Simoncello presents a varied natural scenery and offers a path to discover the fauna, arranged in three stages: the first one concerns the knowledge of farmyard animals such as goats, sheep, mules, animals resources that were essential to the daily sustenance of farming families of the past. The second stage allows visitors close-up observation of wild animals that live free in the Natural Park of Sasso Simone and Simoncello, such as deer, fallow deer, but also toads and newts that live in the ponds, which are arranged along the path. The tour ends arriving at an observation point outside the Natural Park of Sasso Simone and Simoncello where, with a little luck, you can have the chance to see wild boars in complete freedom in their daily life between search of food and body care. In the Natural Park of Sasso Simone and Simoncello there are several observation points and rest areas equipped with benches and, in some cases, even with playgrounds for children.
