The Marine Museum of Cesenatico is one of the most suggestive things in this town. Composed of two distinct sections, a “Ground” section and a “Floating” section located in the innermost and oldest stretch of the Port Channel by Leonardo, it collects ten traditional boats of the Adriatic that, during the summer, are equipped with the traditional and colorful ‘lug sails’ on which appear the symbols that identified the fishermen families. On some boats we also find decorations considered propitious in the past, such as the ‘eyes’ – typical of Cattolica boats – or the figures of angels playing musical instruments on the bow. The collection of the Floating Section includes a “Transport Trabaccolo” (typical Adriatic Sea sailing coaster) to which you can access for visiting the large cargo bay, the narrow cabin, trying to figure out and understand the conditions of sailors daily life, when they sailed. The Ground Section, which faces the same stretch of the Port Channel, is home to numerous artefacts of the Adriatic marine and other traditional boats visible by going upstairs on the second floor of the exhibition, where there are jutting terraces which allow to get close to the masts to snatch all the secrets. In the first section of the exhibition are a few simple materials of boats construction and an illustration of the basic but effective technologies used for millennia to navigate. Among the pieces exhibited in the Ground Section, is a ropemaker wheel with the reconstruction of its working and a nineteenth-century complete naval carpentry workshop, set up exactly as it was. Continuing to visit the exhibition we find exposed numerous ancient and modern anchors, including some important relics of the seventeenth century. The Marine Museum provides ample space to illustrate the evolution of the sail equipment side by side with motor specimens. Very interesting are also the testimonies that tell of life on board, fishing and fish trade. Among the exhibits are also curious magical-religious symbols, often found on traditional boats, to avoid the many possible dangers by sailing. The Marine Museum completes its exhibition with a series of rare movies of the time, but also 3D animations that explain the maneuvers on board and other educational paths. Like for many museums of the coast, opening hours change depending on the season, so for a visit we suggest to contact the phone number 0547 672 457. The access card is cumulative for the two sections of the Museum and includes, in addition to access to “Transport Trabaccolo”, the entrance to  Antiquarium of Cesenatico.
