The San Pietro Church in Valle, located in Fano, was commissioned by the Philippine Fathers of the Oratory Congregation and built between 1610 and 1616 by the Giovanni Battista Cavagna architect. This church, placed in the central Via Nolfi of Fano city, creates a curious contrast with its interior, rich in gold and stucco, and its extremely simple façade made of brick. The interior is composed by a nave with six chapels and domed vaults. In 1620 Antonio Viviani frescoed the nave and the presbytery vaults and also the window sides of the facade.
At that time, the San Pietro Church was a real little museum with numerous paintings that are now housed in the Civic Gallery, for example the beautiful St. Peter healing the cripple by Simone Cantarini, or the Annunciation by Guido Reni, and many other masters such as Antonio Viviani, Alessandro Vitali, Giovan Giacomo Pandolfi, Matteo Loves, Luigi Garzi,
Garbieri Lorenzo, Giovanni Francesco Guerrieri, Sebastiano Ceccarini, Carlo Magini that demonstrate the intersection of tradition and innovations emerging from the different languages of the Marches region and the pictorial cultural Roman and Bolognese heritage. The San Pietro Church represents one of the most beautiful baroque buildings of the Marche region.
